The food consumption of children doubled by advertising

Television advertising remarkably influences the eating behavior of children, researchers at the University of Liverpool, as evidenced in a study they have recently conducted.

It seems that there is a relationship with the overweight that a child can present and the food advertising he is watching on television, according to the data obtained, if a child is overweight and sees a television ad, its consumption increases to twice as usual and what is worse, prefers unhealthy foods.

The more overweight a child is, the more he eats if he is exposed to the different food ads that are broadcast on television (products considered unhealthy). For this conclusion, the researchers took the data of 60 children aged 9 to 11 who watched television series of drawings with advertising cuts included. Children who were obese increased food intake up to 134% and those with normal weight, up to 84% more.

These data (although concise) are quite evident and clearly reflect how advertising affects children, for this reason parents should supervise the television hours of the children since they start watching television. Advertising is dedicated to that, to promote and encourage consumption, although advertising companies indicate that they do not promote consumption but the brand they advertise, the reality is that they do encourage greater consumption.

It would be interesting to shield in some way (at least) the children's programming that is broadcast in Spain, avoiding that certain foods that are not healthy for the development of the little ones were announced during the advertising cuts and more knowing the data that the study shows us from United Kingdom.
