Milk protein allergy in babies harms the family

Last year we met the Act Against Allergy Platform whose objective is to educate, raise awareness and help identify the cow's milk protein allergy (APLV), its incidence in babies is 3%, and according to the work developed by this platform, the family life of these babies is seriously affected.

Allergy to cow's milk protein is worse than lactose intolerance, it affects three organic systems, vomiting, diarrhea, swelling ... of the gastrointestinal system, rashes, atopic dermatitis or eczema that affect the skin and skin. respiratory system with wheezing, cough and mucus.

All these problems that the baby suffers, also suffer from parents who, in addition to worrying, feel guilty and do not rest well, a survey of the platform concludes that the parents of babies with APLV are lacking in sleep. It also shows that half of the parents miss work, in 38% of couples there are discussions for this reason and family life (including siblings) is altered in almost 40% of cases.

The identification of the symptoms and the diagnosis of the APLV is still difficult for the healthcare staff, but the work continues. Improving the quality of life of babies and their families is one of the objectives.
