It seems that the implementation in Spain of a European Parliament proposal from a few years ago is closer. Parliamentary groups in the Congress of Deputies of Spain have reached an agreement to extend the smoking ban to all parks and children's leisure areas.
If we recently commented on the possibility of smoking in the car with children, this was another situation in which legal action was foreseen. It is a print that we have already commented on other occasions, and that in general annoys quite a lot: that it is smoked, even outdoors, does not prevent that the smoke reaches the smallest.
In addition, it is shown that the less young children see smoking, the less normalized they will see this act and the less chance they will have of smoking in the future.
If we intend to be an example for future generations, we should not smoke in front of our children in any field. However, surely there are people to whom this measure does not seem appropriate.
AdvertisingWe can argue that how far the bans are going to go, and the truth is that I don't know to what extent smoking in front of children can be controlled. Hopefully the education and awareness of adults would not make these measures necessary, but unfortunately it is not.
It remains to be seen how this new law is formulated, some questions occur to me: will smoking be prohibited in the park even when there are no children? How do you define “playground”? If there are no swings can a cigarette be lit? Do you anticipate sanctions educational?
So, despite these unknowns, in principle I think it's great that smoking is prohibited in playgrounds, and I think that if we adults want to smoke a cigarette, it is not so difficult to do so out of sight of children.
