The Odón device: to give birth like a cork from a bottle

It all started with a bet between Jorge Odón, mechanic and inventor who already has several patents to his credit, and his friend Carlos Modena, in which he assured that he could take out a cork from inside a bottle with a plastic bag.

Certainly, the trick works. A bag inside a bottle, filled with a little air, is capable of wrapping a cork so that, by pulling after the bag, the cork can be extracted from it.

That night, while he was sleeping, he was startled by an idea and decided to wake up his wife to explain it to him: "Did you see the little piggy? His wife, it seems, turned around and continued sleeping (typical reaction, I would say ...).

The fact is that Odón went ahead with the invention and ended up creating the call odon device, which has already been used successfully in eleven deliveries and has received various awards.

The operation is exactly the same as the one commented on the bottle. With some shovels surrounded by a bag with an air chamber, the baby is reached, surrounding his head with the bag. The shovels are then removed, a specific amount of air is blown and the bag is pulled to help the baby out.

The idea of the device is not to be used for all deliveries, but only for those whose expulsive is taking too long and begins to consider the possibility of performing a C-section. In other words, it is believed that with this invention the cesarean section rate could be reduced or even help in places where there are few resources or minimal medical assistance, as in poor countries.

Eleven deliveries successfully are very few births, but if the odon device, invented by a mechanic with little knowledge of medicine, is useful to help babies be born, reducing risks and consequences of other more problematic techniques, welcome.

I leave you with a video that shows the device and its operation:
