The complete pack to be ecomadre

Some time ago Armando wondered if there is the "Natural Breeding pack", and a new term appears in this way of raising children and that are largely related, as issues such as colecho or non-vaccination are repeated in one and other area

The term "ecomadre" refers to a way of feeling and living motherhood which has diverse implications, from philosophical to sanitary. One can be considered more or less ecomadre as these “precepts” follow to a greater or lesser extent, although women generally do not like to label themselves in these terms.

Let's see what makes someone ecomadre, or ecopadre, which does not talk about them but also have a place in this "philosophy." Some of their actions or defenses are among the most controversial in terms of parenting, and when it comes to childbirth or consumption they are not usually economic options.

  • Birth: advocate for home or hospital birth, but in the most natural way possible. In Spain the option of home birth is still a minority, but in other European countries it is more widespread.
  • Breeding: advocate prolonged breastfeeding, schooling or sharing a bed with parents and parenting with attachment. Approximately 80% of Spanish women decide to breastfeed when they give birth, but three emses after childbirth almost half have left.
  • Education: opt for mothers by day (option we will return soon) or take care of children at home. For now, it is women who decide to put aside their work or reduce the days to take care of their children. In 210, 850,000 of these people did so because of the high price of childcare services. It also influences not agreeing with the characteristics of nursery schools.
  • Philosophy: a mixture of environmentalism, Eastern philosophies and new age. In positive thinking is power, and there is a need to save the planet almost always from an individual perspective. The rights of animals, the return to rural life, renewable energies are defended ...
  • Consumption: being ecomadre is not cheap, and this is demonstrated by the shopping baskets compared. Organic food, natural fabrics, organic products ... are not for all budgets. Recycling, macrobiotic food, fair trade, exchange ... are some of the most consumption options ecological.
  • Health: conventional medicine and alternatives (such as homeopathy) alternate, or sometimes the latter is decidedly chosen. Sometimes they question whether vaccination is necessary or not according to established schedules and a party refuses to vaccinate children.

As we see, it is a whole world in which thoughts and attitudes close to what fit natural, but because of the opinions I have been able to read, they do not have to be followed in order to be considered “ecomadre”. And you, how many of these points do you meet for be ecomadres?
