A comic so that kids can learn the spelling rules

Javier de la Cruz is Secondary school teacher of the Social Sciences Area. Its objective is to try to improve day by day as a teacher, integrating and experimenting with ICT and trying to make the development of students' skills a reality. One of the products he has made is a comic strip with two protagonists, Clueless and Spelling, which teach rules and uses of spelling in a fun and entertaining way.

The comic has been published in the Digital magazine of the Ministry of Education of the Junta de Castilla y León since 2009. The objective is continue publishing it monthly until 2014. The full comic can be accessed by clicking on the link below.

The work is very serious and very well documented although in my opinion the comic and the cartoons seem to give it an informal tone. The content is very direct and they are spelling rules that are learned and consolidated in high school. I like the content although the comic format seems to me that it doesn't feel too good. The protagonists are called Despi Y Ortho and I think that spelling doesn't need artifacts to learn it.

In any case it is a very interesting initiative that drives Javier de la Cruz who works, also from his blog, to testify to what a lot and good that teachers work and the creativity they put into the integration of ICT (information and communication technologies) in the classroom. And, since November 2012, a blog has been running, called Educational Experiences with ICT in Castilla y León, which aims to make visible different successful experiences that are developed in this Spanish community.
